From 2021, Roland-Garros will schedule night sessions on the Philippe-Chatrier court from 9 p.m., with a match every night from the first week until the quarter-finals, the organizers of the Parisian Grand Slam announced on Sunday.

No more free TV

"From Monday of the first week (the second day of the tournament) to the quarter-finals (Wednesday of the second week), ten evening sessions will be scheduled on the Philippe-Chatrier court", announced the organizers in a communicated.

This “poster of the day” will concern the men's or women's draw, and will start at 9:00 p.m.

A specific ticket office will be set up for these night sessions, in parallel with those already existing for the day sessions.

As foreseen by the call for tenders concluded in June 2019, the broadcasting of these night sessions will be provided "exclusively in France by Amazon Prime Video", it is specified.

And therefore will not be accessible for free.

The Gaston-Thiem that the French people were able to enjoy for free, it's over.

Another era.

The TV rights for the Paris tournament for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 editions are shared between France Télévisions and the American online sales giant.

Amazon will also exclusively broadcast the scheduled meetings on the Simonne-Mathieu court, inaugurated in 2019.

The arrival of the night sessions results from the renovation work carried out on the Roland-Garros site, which notably enabled the Philippe-Chatrier court to be equipped with a retractable roof, and the installation of lighting on 12 of the 14 courts.
