World number one Novak Djokovic qualified for his 10th semi-final at Roland Garros on Wednesday by eliminating Spaniard Pablo Carreno (18th).

He will face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (6th) for a place in the final.

On the women's side, Sofia Kenin beat Danielle Collins, while Petra Kvitová defeated Laura Siegemund.

Although physically diminished, world number one Novak Djokovic qualified on Wednesday for his 10th semi-final at Roland Garros by eliminating Spaniard Pablo Carreno (18th), to whom he offered a place in the US quarterfinals. Open by being disqualified after a ball he had hit in a gesture of humor had inadvertently struck a linesman (4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4).

The Serbian will face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (6th) for a place in the final. 

A first for Tsitsipas

At 22, Tsitsipas therefore climbed for the first time in his young career in the last four in a major tournament.

The Greek took his revenge on Andrey Rublev (12th) in less than two hours (7-5, 6-2, 6-3), despite a sluggish start (Rublev served for the first set at 5-4) .

It was the Russian who had the last word in the final of the Hamburg tournament at the dawn of Roland Garros.

Experience is the premium for the ladies

On the women's side, after the semi-final between novices which took shape on Tuesday, between the young Polish Iga Swiatek (19 years old, 54th) and the Argentinian qualifier Nadia Podoroska (131st), it was a second between initiates that took shape Wednesday, between Petra Kvitova (11th), double winner of Wimbledon, and Sofia Kenin (6th), winner of the Australian Open at the beginning of the year.

The first, victorious 6-3, 6-3 of the German Laura Siegemund (66th), invites herself in the last four at Roland Garros for the first time in eight years, but for the seventh time in her tournament career major.

The second, which contained (6-4, 4-6, 6-0) the sonorous resentment of Danielle Collins (57th) in a 100% American duel, will play its first semi-final Porte d'Auteuil, but has a record fifteen victories for a single defeat in Grand Slam in 2020.
