The International Federation (FIA) held the Karting World Championship this weekend in the Italian town of Lonato.
In the final of the KZ category, the most outstanding for the quality of the drivers, the victory went to the Frenchman
Jeremy Iglesias
, ahead of the Dutch
Marijn Kremers
and
Bas Lammers
.
However, this victory was overshadowed by the infamous behavior of
Luca Corberi
.
The 23-year-old Italian was pulled out of the race on lap 10 after a collision with compatriot
Paolo Ippolito
as he tried to regain positions.
Far from resigning to his fate, Corberi waited on the side of the track until the Ippolito pass on the next turn.
Then he threw a broken part of his kart at him.
Not even the checkered flag managed to calm Corberi, who waited for Ippolito in the closed park, where a fight broke out between the members of their respective teams.
The race director immediately informed the stewards that after examining the video images they decided to disqualify the Tony Kart Racing Team driver from the competition.
According to his decision, he had violated Appendix L Chapter IV.2.C of the FIA Sporting Code.
They also decided to disqualify Ippolito (CRG Srl) for "causing the collision" with a dangerous maneuver.
At the moment there is no news of sanction for the incidents in the closed park.
Among the 24 cars that finished the race was that of Spanish
Pedro Hiltbrand
, former world champion, who could not get on the podium and had to settle for seventh position.
Interestingly, Hiltbrand shares a team with Corberi, who in the next few hours could face exemplary punishment from the FIA.
