  • After a weightless first half, Stade Toulousain suffered more but still dominated Toulon (39-19), this Sunday in Top 14.

  • It took 40 minutes for the RCT to come out of its lethargy.

  • If Lebel flamed on the left wing of the Stade Toulousain, the pillar Rodrigue Neti could have sealed his own with a red card.

At the Ernest-Wallon stadium,

Eight days after leaving the European road in the semi-final, with the English of Exeter (28-18), Stade Toulousain dominated Toulon this Sunday evening (39-19, five tries to three), in Top 14. During forty minutes, RCT seemed to already have their heads in Aix-en-Provence, where they will play in the Challenge Cup final against Bristol on October 16.

Toulouse, a gala half-time

Sanitary gauge requires, there were only 1,000 spectators at Ernest-Wallon Sunday.

To the sound of a band in great shape, Ugo Mola's men regaled the meager assistance during the first period with 25 points to zero and three tries (Lebel, Kolbe and Tauzin).

A minimum price so much the teammates of Lucas Tauzin and Maxime Médard, out of the "fridge" where they had spent the last few weeks, dominated until the break.

The result was much more painful, and marked by the red card of the pillar Rodrigue Neti, for a charge on his counterpart Gigashvili, while the action was over (62nd).

But the essential was acquired: invincible since September 29, 2018 at home, the Stadistes will remain so at least until the arrival of Lyon on the weekend of October 24, after two trips to Racing 92 and then to Brive.

Slow and relaxed Toulonnais

Crushed, even crushed.

The rough and proud Toulonnais looked for a half time like the nice kittens of the La Poste calendars.

The many absences, even of weight (Gros, Etrillard, Etzebeth, Parisse, Serin, Belleau, Hériteau…), cannot explain everything.

After changing four players at the break, the Var woke up.

And it was the replacements who made this resurgence a reality (tests by minots Moretti and Egiziano and the former Toulousain Méric).

Encouraging, but too late, especially since the Rouge et Noir Haut-Garonnais managed to plant two tries during this second act, by Lebel then Cros.

Matthis Lebel, more than a replacement

Faithful to the match sheets since the start of the season, the 21-year-old winger celebrated his second tenure this Sunday, in the absence of injured Yoann Huget.

The double world champion under 20 recalled if necessary that Toulouse could already count on him.

DOUBLED FOR @lebel_matthis!

😍 On a long phase of possession in the 22m Toulonnais, Kolbe comes back inside and passes to Tauzin who serves his winger U20 World Champion, Matthis Lebel!

After his test in Exeter, the Gersois signed a double (19th, 55th) as a pure finisher against RCT.

He also proved that he knew how to combine speed and creation, as on the second achievement (28th), where he “cleaned up” a nasty pass from Tauzin to serve 20 meters further on Dupont, who sent Kolbe behind the Toulon line.
