A humiliating defeat for Manchester United against Tottenham led by Mourinho

Manchester United equaled their hardest Premier League defeat by losing 6-1 at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Son Heung-min and Harry Kane each scored twice for the guests, while Manchester United continued the match with 10 men since the 28th minute after Anthony Martial was sent off as Jose Mourinho celebrated a stunning victory in his return to the club, which sacked him 22 months ago.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side led two minutes from the start with a penalty kick by Bruno Fernandes, but Tottenham responded quickly, taking advantage of some disastrous defensive mistakes by United, with Tangay Ndombele equalizing and then Son adding the second goal.

The referee famously marked Marcial's red card after interfering with Eric Lamela at the corner flag, after which Kane made the score 3-1 for the guests.

Son added his second personal goal shortly afterwards, before the break as United conceded four goals in the first half for the first time since 1957, and was also against Tottenham Hotspur.

Serge Aurier added the fifth goal in the 51st minute before Kane completed the sixth with a penalty kick.

United also lost 6-1 to Manchester City in October 2011.
