On the third day of the Japan Student Championship, which decides the number one swimming university in Japan, Rio Shirai, who is aiming for the Tokyo Olympics in the women's 200m freestyle, won the tournament for the third consecutive time with a time of 1'58.16.

The Japan Student Championship, which is held at Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center in Koto Ward, Tokyo, was held on the 3rd and the 3rd day of the competition.

Of these, Shirai, a third-year student at Toyo University, who was the first Japanese female athlete to advance to the final of this event at last year's world championship and is aiming for the Tokyo Olympics next year, participated in the women's 200-meter freestyle.

Shirai took the lead in the early part of the final race by showing an aggressive swim.

After the middle stage, he couldn't keep up with the speed and was behind his personal best by more than 1 second, but he won the championship at 1'58.16 without giving up the top until the end and won the tournament for the third consecutive time.

Shirai said, "I was aiming for my best, but I was too conscious of the time and it became a powerful swim. I took it for granted that I won the championship, so I feel more disappointed."

In addition, Suzuka Hasegawa, a third-year student at Nihon University, won the women's 100-meter butterfly for the first time with a good time of 57.70, and achieved two crowns following the women's 200-meter butterfly.
