35-year-old Örebro son Fredrik Lindgren has been involved in the World Cup context in earnest since 2008.

He has a bronze from 2018 - but has never had a better position to win the gold than he has now.

But it also takes an absolute top-class finish to get there.

Polish reigning world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik leads the World Cup table, seven points ahead of Fredrik Lindgren ahead of the two final competitions in Torun.

Friday night's competition can decide a lot.

To have a real chance at the gold, Lindgren must do as he did in five of the six competitions in this year's series.

That is, to get to the final heat.

- I look forward to it and wait for everything to start.

But I focus on myself, and do not attach much importance to what path it is.

It is the same for everyone.

You have to do what you can yourself first and foremost, he says.

Course In Swedish design

The track in Torun is known for inviting to good speedway, with many riding opportunities.

The course is also designed by a Swede, the world champion from 1990, Per Jonsson.

- It's a fun course.

You can drive long turns or walk a little tight.

It has many tracks if it is well prepared.

It is a positive path for me, says Fredrik Lindgren

Lindgren has so far followed the motto of taking "one heat at a time" - which has gone a long way.

In practice, he has already secured a medal, as it separates 21 points down to four Maciej Janowski.

Behind him he also has third Tai Woffinden, who shadows only three points behind the Swede.

But Lindgren wants more.

- Having a chance at a World Cup title when it contracts is new to me.

I see myself a bit like an underdog.

Zmarzlik and Woffinden know how to win the World Cup.

But I will give everything I have, he says.

What will be your keys to success this weekend?

- The focus on myself and my own achievement.

That will be the most important thing for me, says Fredrik Lindgren.
