At present, cocaine is listed as a so-called specified stimulant and thus the punishment must be at least twelve months suspension.

But after the New Year, it will look different.

Wada has released the list of doping-classified substances.

There has been a change.

Using drugs that do not improve sports performance should no longer be punished as severely as the use of doping substances.

The new suspension will instead be three months.

- From a strictly pharmacological point of view, it is good that it gets away from doping because it has nothing to do with it.

Plus you have to spend a lot of time on it, and there are a few that go there every year.

They have no understanding of it and we must follow the rules.

That way, this is better, says Åke Andrén-Sandberg, chairman of RF's doping commission, to SVT Sport.

The penalty can, however, be one month.

If the practitioner agrees to psychological treatment.

"Included in the code of conduct"

Even though Andrén-Sandberg sees advantages with the decision, he does not want the preparations in sports.

- In the Swedish doping commission, we are unhappy if the sports movement would accept that athletes engage in it, so in that way it is very unhappy.

Then there is, as I said, the second part, that cannabis and cocaine and so on have no doping effect, it is not performance-enhancing.

It would instead be included in the code of conduct.

Why is that decision being made now?

- It is very scientifically proven that cocaine does not provide any performance benefit, but perhaps rather the opposite.

Maybe that's what they've been up to.

- It is unreasonable that you have things on the list that have nothing to do with doping.

"Where we should put the effort"

Would you like more changes?

- We have a number of proposals.

If you remember (Abeba) Aregawi, who had taken meldonium.

There is no study that shows that meldonium has any effect either.

It is an Eastern European preparation that has been taken in connection with heart attacks and so on.

Although it is now 25 years old, there is no scientific evidence that it has any effect.

- There are some other preparations that could possibly, possibly have a small effect.

But it is so small compared to the big ones so it is not something you should do.

We want to get rid of blood doping, anabolic steroids and stimulants.

It's the heavy doping, so that's where we should put the effort.

Arne Ljungqvist, professor and anti-doping expert, has wanted to remove cocaine from the list.
