The draw for the group stage of the Champions League takes place on Wednesday in Nyon, Switzerland.

Placed in hat 1, PSG will avoid the biggest clubs, but could still have to face serious customers such as FC Barcelona or Atalanta Bergamo.

On the side of Marseille and Rennes, placed in hat 4, the challenge will be not to fall into a "group of death".

After a last edition disrupted by the coronavirus epidemic and ended in August with the victory of Bayern Munich, the Champions League is already back.

It is indeed this Thursday at 5 p.m. that the draw for the group stage of the 2020/2021 edition must be held, in Nyon, Switzerland.

The event will be broadcast on Téléfoot and on RMC Sports.

A repatriated raffle

Originally, the draw, as well as that of the C3, was to be held in Athens.

But due to the Covid-19 pandemic, UEFA repatriated them to its Swiss headquarters in Nyon.

The event will be held behind closed doors, without any club representatives or journalists.

The only ones admitted will be the winners of the distinctions given to the best players and coaches of the 2019/20 season.

When will the group stage take place?

The six matches of the group stages will take place from October 20 to December 9.

How are the hats made?

Hat 1 is made up of Bayern Munich, Sevilla FC, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Juventus Turin,

PSG

, Zenith Saint-Petersburg, and FC Porto.

In hat 2, we find FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Ajax Amsterdam.

Hat 3 brings together RB Leipzig, Inter Milan, Lazio Rome, Atalanta Bergamo, Dynamo Kiev, Red Bull Salzburg, Olympiakos and FC Krasnodar while in hat 4,

Marseille

,

Rennes

, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Istanbul Basaksehir, Bruges, Ferenvcaros, Lokomotiv Moscow and the Danes of Midtjylland will try to avoid a big draw.

What would be the worst draws for French clubs?

Warm in the first hat, PSG will avoid the most formidable competitors during this group stage.

But the men of Thomas Tuchel, unhappy finalists of the last edition against Bayern Munich, could still inherit a big client in hat 2, like Atlético Madrid, which has just secured the services of Luis Suarez , Chelsea, or Borussia Dortmund, whom he eliminated in the round of 16 last season.

For its part, even weakened by the controversy around Messi's desire to leave, FC Barcelona remains a safe bet on the European scene.

And a big chunk to avoid.

Placed in hat 4, Stade Rennais and OM are on the other hand guaranteed to inherit one or more big fish.

In hat 1, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Juventus Turin appear as scarecrows.

And the hat 3 also includes its share of formidable teams, which could also come to titillate the PSG, between an Inter Milan back in the foreground, Atalanta Bergamo, revelation of last edition, or even RB Leipzig and Lazio Rome.
