The Icelander, who is himself an old discus thrower, will be employed by the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK).

The role, High Performance Manager, means, among other things, being a bit of a ballpark for all athletes and their coaches.

- We are convinced that Vesteinn's competence and commitment will contribute to continued development and new successes on the global stage, both in the short and long term, says Stefan Olsson, Secretary General of the Swedish Athletics Association.

"Dream role"

Vesteinn Hafsteinsson is currently the coach of some of Sweden's foremost athletes.

Fanny Roos, Daniel Ståhl and Simon Pettersson are all trained by the Icelander.

He will retain that responsibility.

- This is a dream role for me.

I can remain as a coach for several years and also get the chance to spread my coaching knowledge to more sports and other sports with a view to Olympic success, says Hafsteinsson.
