Serena Williams will not go any further at Roland Garros.

The American, who still runs behind Margaret Court's record for Grand Slam wins, withdrew before her second round due to injury.

"It's my Achilles tendon that didn't have time to heal after the US Open," the younger Williams sisters, 39, told a press conference.

Nothing foreshadowed such an outcome and certainly not the first round of the American, expeditious against her compatriot Ahn (7-6, 6-0).

Her opponent of the day, the Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova (157th) therefore passes without playing in the third round at Roland Garros.
