The Swedish Figure Skating Federation had an annual meeting on Saturday where a new chairman was to be elected.
The former chairman Katarina Henriksson was not considered eligible and therefore could not be re-elected.
- I think it is very sad, this issue of eligibility.
It was not expected because I know that if you are to interpret the statutes on eligibility, it applies to the day of the meeting.
But yes, it's a little nice with some free time, she says to SVT Sport.
Different interpretations of the statutes
Prior to the meeting, a conflict arose within figure skating Sweden.
According to the union's statutes, no one on the board may be employed, but the chairman Katarina Henriksson has still been paid.
Not as a salary, but as a fee of more than one million kronor in two years for assignments she received from the board.
It was not liked by everyone, and before the meeting, several figure skating districts considered Henriksson's fees to be inappropriate.
The Nomination Committee's proposal for chairman was Henriksson, and together with the Board, they believed that her assignments were temporary.
- It is about the fact that I have worked very much with certain issues that the board has judged that we have had a need to strengthen.
It has been turbulent with malpractice, external investigation and staff turnover over the last two years, she says.
Despite the board's and the nomination committee's motivation, a majority of the members voted against her eligibility.
- It was a very turbulent meeting and I do not think it was clear that the election applies when you vote and not about what happened before, says Henriksson.
Unsure about continued work with the WC
She is still chairman of the association's subsidiaries working on the WC 2021 to be held in Sweden.
She does not know what her role will look like in that company in the future.
- The board is brand new and I have not heard from them at all.
Do you want to stay?
- I have to take a position on that when I get the question.
On the other hand, she will most likely remain in the sport in one way or another.
- I have been doing this all my life so I see that I will do something in some role.
I am a judge and controller and now that I am no longer chairman, I can exercise it in a different way, says Katarina Henriksson.
