Forcing Flamengo to play in the Brazilian League, despite the injury of 19 players in Corona

Brazilian club Flamengo was forced to play a match in the local football league by a judicial decision taken 10 minutes before the date of the match against Palmeiras, despite 19 of its players being infected with the new Corona virus.

And after the Labor Court in the state of Rio de Janeiro decided last Saturday to postpone the match because it was impossible to ensure that no more players and crews working in Flamengo were infected, the Brazilian Football Association (CBF) resumed the ruling on the pretext that the outbreak of the virus in the club was an "isolated incident that cannot be attributed to the Brazilian Football League." Foot. "

Federal Labor Judge Vieira de Mello Feliu ruled that the court in Rio de Janeiro, where Flamengo is the holder of the Brazilian League and Copa Libertadores titles for South American clubs, "exceeded the limits of its jurisdiction" because the match is scheduled for Sao Paulo, where Palmeiras is based.

The two teams were on the stadium awaiting the decision to appeal submitted by the Brazilian Federation.

After the ruling of the Rio de Janeiro court was annulled, Flamengo found himself forced to play the match with most of its members from his under-21 team, but he managed to draw 1-1 at Palmeiras.

Flamengo, which is considered the richest club in Brazil, was one of the most demanding of the return of the league after the suspension imposed by the outbreak of the "Covid-19" virus, but when it fell victim to the pandemic, it changed its tone and sought to postpone its match with Palmeiras.

Flamengo had to make many changes to his squad as well in Tuesday's match against Barcelona, Ecuador, in the Copa Libertadores, after seven of its players tested positive for the virus, without this preventing him from winning 2-1.

And he faced a lot of criticism when pictures of his players were published on the club's plane without masks, even as more injuries appeared in his ranks.

In addition to the 19 players, 17 Flamengo staff members were tested positive, including Spanish coach Dominique Torrent and club president Rodolfo Landem.

Brazil ranks second with the largest number of deaths in the world due to "Covid-19", after the United States, with more than 140,000 people out of 4.7 million positive cases.

Brazilian football resumed its activity in June behind closed doors, after a three-month hiatus due to the pandemic.

Flamengo is currently ranked sixth in the Brazilian Championship standings with 18 points from 11 games, while Atletico Mineiro is top with 24 points.
