AFC rejects Al Hilal Saudi protest

The Asian Football Confederation announced today, Saturday, the rejection of the protest by the Saudi club Al-Hilal, days after announcing that Al-Hilal was withdrawing from the AFC Champions League.

"The Discipline and Ethics Committee of the Asian Football Confederation decided today, Saturday, to reject the objection submitted by the Saudi Al-Hilal club, regarding its withdrawal from the AFC Champions League for the West," the AFC said in a statement published on its website today.

The statement added: "According to an official statement published today, Saturday on the AFC website, the committee relied on Article 4.3 of (Special Instructions for AFC competitions during the Corona virus pandemic."

The statement indicated that the AFC will not issue any further comment on this matter.

Al-Hilal had raised an official protest against the AFC's decision to consider it withdrawing from the Champions League after it was unable to present a list of 13 players, as a minimum, in its last group matches against the UAE youth team Al-Ahly.
