Frans Derks died on Friday in his hometown Breda.

The striking former referee, who whistled in the Eredivisie from 1956 to 1978, has turned 89.

Derks died after a short illness, a nephew of the former arbitrator told Omroep Brabant on Friday


Last year Derks was a guest on the television program

After his referee career, Derks was president of volleyball club BREVOK from Breda from 1978 to 1994 and then he was the president of FC Dordrecht until 2003.

He was also chairman of the Coöperatie Eerste Divisie.
