For Rebecca Peterson, 2020 can, so far, be summed up in three words: corona, diseases and back problems.

An unparalleled season is coming to an end, and the 49-ranked Swede states that she has come out stronger on the other side of this year's setback.

- I feel that I have had quite a lot of adversity throughout the year, but at the same time there is no reason not to fight on.

I'm on the right track and it's getting better and better all the time.

Adversity makes one stronger, she states.

Not completely restored

The 25-year-old started the year by leaving the Australian Open already in the first round, largely due to a virus that kept her in a stubborn grip for a long time.

In the same vein, she was pulled with great back problems in the form of a troublesome disk and not even nine months later - days before this year's postponed edition of the French Open - she feels completely recovered.

- No, I have not been able to train as much as I wanted, neither physique nor tennis.

An injury that you have had for so long takes time to build up.

Since then I have had some health problems, that's what happens when you are an athlete.

You are always on the border and sometimes you go a little too far.

Then there will be few "setbacks".

Plays on Sunday

What are your expectations for the French Open?

- To prepare myself as best I can and feel that I have done everything in my power to give me a chance to play well.

That's the only thing I can demand of myself right now in the seat I'm in.

Peterson adds:

- There are not that many competitions left this year.

My goal is for me to come back and feel that I am one hundred percent in terms of health and injuries.

That is my biggest goal for 2021.

In Paris, Peterson will play on Sunday against 64-ranked Belgian Alison van Uytvanck.
