The European Union adopts the five substitutions in the European Champions and Nations League

The European Football Association (UEFA) announced today that it will keep the rule of allowing five substitutions in its competitions for the new football season, which were adopted after the resumption of competitions last season due to the repercussions of the new Corona virus, while he did not specify whether they would apply to the European Cup finals for teams.

The Confederation indicated that "another decision" will be taken at a later time regarding the European Cup, which has been postponed from this year to the summer of 2021 due to the pandemic.

A statement issued by the federation following the meeting of the Executive Committee in the Hungarian capital Budapest, where the European Super Cup match between Bayern Munich and Seville, Spain will be held this evening, "Five substitutions will be allowed for all European Nations League matches, and supplement matches that qualify for the European Cup, the European Women's Cup qualifiers and the League. European Champions, the European League (Europa League) and the Women's Champions League.

Many coaches had called for the restoration of this rule, after not working on it in the first two rounds of the European Nations League at the beginning of this month, due to the busy schedule of clubs between the end of the last football season and the completion of the two continental competitions (the Champions League and the European League) in August and the start of the new season in National Championships after a short break.

Among the most prominent coaches who demanded the adoption of the rule in the Nations League were Didier Deschamps, coach of the French national team, the world champion, the German Joachim Loew, the coach of "Nacional Manschaft", and the Spanish coach of Luis Enrique, the coach of "La Roja."

Several major leagues adopted this rule for the new season, such as the French, Spanish and German, while the English Premier League clubs did not vote on it, which was satisfied with the three traditional substitutions.

This decision was applauded by the global players union (FIFPro), which considered that it "will better help in dealing with the unprecedented workload that players will face in the coming months."

Wifa also announced that the finals of the current edition of the Nations League will be held between the sixth and tenth of October 2021, noting that Italy, the Netherlands and Poland have expressed their desire to host the matches (semi-final, final and third-place match).

The finals of the first edition were held in Portugal in 2019, with Cristiano Ronaldo and his colleagues claiming the title at the expense of the Netherlands.
