As against Dijon, the Parc OL was able to welcome last Friday against Nîmes 5,000 spectators.

  • Faced since Tuesday with a new prefectural decree, OL “does not accept” the new gauge imposed on 1,000 spectators to welcome OM on October 4.

  • Like several other French clubs, OL are counting on the amendment of Sacha Houlié, adopted unanimously in the National Assembly, to change the situation.

  • The LREM deputy of Vienne suggests the principle of proportional gauge according to two criteria: the size of the stadium and the circulation of the virus in the department of the enclosure.

“A great step forward for common sense, supporters and spectators.

This is how Sacha Houlié presents this Wednesday the first victory of his amendment "so that the filling gauges are proportional to the capacity of the stadiums and the rooms".

Tuesday evening, the LREM deputy of Vienne awaited a response from Olivier Véran, heard in the law committee at the National Assembly.

But the Minister of Health referred this matter to the defense council.

And this Wednesday, the law committee of the National Assembly adopted the amendment, supported for several weeks by the Ministry of Sports.

Sacha Houlié's position is clear: “to question the gauges in absolute value”.

Namely 5,000 spectators maximum in all French stadiums and halls, and now 1,000 in most red zones, it doesn't matter whether it is the Vélodrome stadium (67,000 seats) or the Francis-Leblé stadium in Brest (16,000 seats) .

"We will try to fight against this national doctrine"

After in particular the OGC Nice, the Girondins de Bordeaux and the OM, the OL are in turn faced with a new prefectural decree depopulating its stadium a little more.

After having seen its gauge limited as everywhere in France to 5,000 people, against Dijon on August 28 and Nîmes on Friday, all in the stand is of a 59,000-seat enclosure, the Lyon club must now switch (at least) until 6 October with an influx of 1,000 spectators maximum.

A new blow, especially since this news concerns the shock against OM, scheduled for October 4 (9 p.m.).

As it stands, the Lyon club should only welcome its customers and partners who have subscribed to lodges that evening, which are around 1,500 since the start of the season.

But the wish of the Lyon stadium manager Xavier Pierrot is quite different: "We will try to fight against this national doctrine by pushing in the direction of the amendment proposed by Sacha Houlié".

10 to 50% infill depending on stage size and virus circulation

According to the latter, "the timing is too tight" concerning this Ligue 1 poster, while the law will be examined on October 1 in public.

Xavier Pierrot thus summarized the feeling of OL on Tuesday.

We are stunned because there is no reason to change a formula that works well, without a cluster identified in a stadium in France.

We cannot accept that the same gauge limit is applied in a 3,000-seat performance hall as in a 59,000-seat stadium.

Sport is again sanctioned while it is much more dangerous to walk on a Saturday in the Part-Dieu shopping center.

There is no sanitary consistency.

"

To allow more, Sacha Houlié therefore suggests this principle of proportional gauge according to two criteria: the size of the stadium and the circulation of the virus in the department of the enclosure.

It provides categories "for information only": "a gauge of 10% of places for stadiums located in the red zone, against 25% in the orange zone and 50% in the green zone".

In this context, OL could for example welcome 5,900 spectators and no longer 1,000, or even up to nearly 30,000 people if the health situation tends to improve in the coming weeks in the Rhône.

"We are taken by the throat"

“This amendment seems obvious and I have a lot of support,” says Sacha Houlié.

I know that clubs like Nantes, Paris, Lyon and Marseille are particularly interested in my approach.

"Indoor sports" clubs also, like Asvel, which will have to host Bourg-en-Bresse on October 4 in an Astroballe from a capacity of 5,600 to 1,000 seats.

Very far from the proposal made by the Villeurbanne club to welcome, "while guaranteeing the safety of all", 3,600 spectators.

"It is difficult to understand the why and how," says Gaëtan Muller, deputy chairman of Asvel.

The impact of a season with a gauge of 1,000 spectators would be terrible for us, with a loss of between 1 and 1.5 million euros. The fight is the same for all sports, we are caught by the throat.
