Isabell Herlovsen is Norway's top scorer with her 67 goals in 133 international matches.

She describes the decision to retire after 16 years at the top as both scary and difficult, but above all as a relief.

- I have always said to myself that if I do not feel any motivation, I will not perform on the football field either, Herlovsen says to NRK.

"A different perspective on life"

The 32-year-old says that the past year has been tough and the corona pandemic, when everything was shut down, became an alarm clock.

Suddenly she had more time with her family, her partner Christine and her two-year-old son Henrik.

- The first year he was very much with Christine so I really appreciated the time I had with Henrik during the corona.

In addition, my grandfather, who was very close to me, died.

I have a different perspective on life now, she says.

Herlovsen made his debut in the Norwegian Toppserien as a 15-year-old and has agreed with the current club Vålerenga to end the contract, which extended the season, already now.
