In the autumn of 2019, the club decided to start a women's team and the members voted to start from the beginning in division 4.

- It is very motivating to be involved and start up a thing like this.

It is an opportunity that will not come again, to start a women's team in one of Sweden's biggest clubs, says team captain Cornelia Lindgren to SVT Sport.

Several classic men's clubs have started women's teams

Of the associations that play in the men's Swedish this year, several have done as Malmö.

Five years ago, only Djurgården and AIK had both a women's team and a men's team in the same association.

By 2020, ten of the sixteen men's Swedish associations will have a women's team.

- I believe much more in the fact that there is an integration, that we are men and women, because it will be a completely different atmosphere, energy and more opportunities will be created.

For me, it will be obvious, says the club's CEO Niclas Carlnén to SVT Sport.

It is not only in the Allsvenskan that this trend exists.

Of the clubs in the Superettan, Västerås and Örgryte, among others, have started women's teams this year and Ljungskile is investing heavily in its women.

"Everything just works out"

Malmö has attracted players with experience from division 2 up to the damallsvenskan.

Where the club's resources are a great advantage.

- It is luxurious to play in Malmö FF in division four.

Everything just settles around.

We do not have to think about whether the clothes are washed and stuff.

Everything just exists, says Cornelia Lindgren.

Malmö has had a women's team before that disappeared from the club in 2007. Then the decision was made not to have a women's activity in the association, but that it would happen again, Niclas Carlnén has a hard time seeing.

- We rarely make short-term decisions, we usually work very long-term so I have a very hard time seeing it, he says.
