Karl-Erik Nilsson was born the same year that Agne Simonsson made his national team debut and followed him as a child.

- Agne was one of the great heroes and one of the great players in Swedish football.

He was also one of my childhood idols and a player that I followed as a little boy, says Karl-Erik Nilsson to SVT Sport.

Simonsson was part of the Swedish team that took World Cup silver at home in 1958 and also became a goal scorer in the final.

He is also the only Swede so far to play for the Spanish big club Real Madrid.

- He was early on the international field when football began to grow.

And as a big profile in the team that was involved in arranging the home World Cup 58 and during the ten-year period in the national team, it is clear that he left his mark on the Swedish football of that time.

Nilsson believes that Simonsson has meant a lot to Swedish football.

- He was a real man of honor and a fantastic ambassador for Swedish football.

Successful both as a player and coach.

It is a day of real sorrow and the thoughts naturally go to his loved ones, family and friends.

Agne Simonsson turned 84 years old.
