It's THE movement that freaks out.

"Bayern has every interest" that Budapest, where the European Supercup will be played Thursday between its team, winner of the Champions League, and the winner of the Europa League, Sevilla FC, is not the scene of 'a "football Ischgl" and thus becomes a new hotbed of coronavirus.

By this statement, the Bavarian boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge refers to the ski resort of Ischgl, Austria, which last winter became a major European hotbed of coronavirus contamination.

An "unreasonable" trip

“I think everyone's stomachs are tight.

The meeting will take place in a city where the contamination rate is over 100 per 100,000 inhabitants, which is double that of Munich, ”Rummenigge told German television station ZDF.

"It is to be taken very seriously," he added.

The leader of the Bavarian club has followed in the footsteps of the head of the regional government of Bavaria, Markus Söder, who was publicly worried on Monday about the consequences that this event could cause.

A trip to the Hungarian capital, classified as a "risk zone" by German authorities, "is not reasonable," said Markus Söder, announcing that all supporters should be placed in quarantine on their return, even if they stay less than 48 hours in Hungary.

Very few Bayern supporters in Budapest

A gauge greater than 20,000 spectators has been authorized by UEFA for this match in the Puskas Arena, which serves as a test for the European body with a view to a return of the public to European competitions, after being held behind closed doors of the Champions League in August in Portugal.

A decision that did not please everyone, starting with the mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karacsony, who was in favor of the closed door for this Supercup.

"If I had had the power to decide, I would have let this match be played behind closed doors," the mayor of the capital told the Hungarian newspaper Nepszava.

Rummenigge also predicts that “less than 1,000” Bayern supporters - their number was still estimated at 1,300 on Tuesday - will make the trip to Budapest, where only 500 Sevilla fans are expected.

"We really have an interest in them coming back in good health and that no one in Budapest is infected", insisted the one who approaches this event with "extreme caution".
