  • Olympique de Marseille and Aix-Marseille University have signed a partnership to better monitor the development of players at the training center.

  • The 127 players of the training center underwent tests within Technosport, a tool installed on the Luminy campus.

  • Thanks to a Dynamic and Systemic Functional Mapping, the supervisors of the training center can better adapt their program to avoid injuries or to re-athlete the player in the event of a deficiency.

Training, a new strong focus for Olympique de Marseille.

As evidenced by this partnership signed between the Olympian club and Aix-Marseille University, for the young players of its training center.

After preseason tests carried out by the university teams, a Dynamic and Systemic Functional Mapping (CFDS) is carried out for each of the 127 players of the training center to work on two axes: injury prevention, and re-athleticism in the event of a deficiency.

At the heart of this partnership, the Technosport, located on the Luminy campus.

“It's a very important, scientifically new tool that will allow us to follow these players, to screen them.

We have already noticed functional deficits, while the player is not complaining about anything.

That's the point, to be in prevention, to then take care of them with the physical trainers.

It is a very powerful tool, with very fast results, and harmless tests, whatever their age, to follow the rehabilitation of injured people, to adapt re-athletic training either to heal, or to avoid injuries, ”explains Joël. Coste, doctor at the OM training center.

"We must work on prevention"

Better knowledge of the physical state of players has become crucial after a period of inactivity imposed by the Covid-19.

“All the work done at the start of the season during this Covid period has been essential for us.

As they were arrested almost five months before returning to competition.

All the tests have shown us that there is an enormous amount of work to be done, and especially over time, ”says Nasser Larguet, the director of the training center, who is pleased with the possibilities offered by this partnership.

“It's a great tool.

Especially for us, in training, we are preparing young people for the high level, we are touching the health of the players.

We always used to see players go through the doctor, physiotherapists.

Today, we must work on prevention, be able to detect upstream the deficit that players may have, what are the strengths and weaknesses and have the time to develop them, ”he continues.

Very nice project bringing together @univamu and @OM_Officiel around medicine, nutrition and technology, and intended for our training center.

This first partnership with the training center could quickly extend to professional teams, men and women.

“Technosport is an incredible structure that many people cannot imagine.

It allows us to better understand our players, why not the professional teams later, to optimize their preparation as well as possible to avoid injuries, ”adds Abdou Sbihi, OM's medical technical director.

Other applications

This support could also be used in the recruitment of new players, as explained by Denis Bertin, deputy vice-president of the Amidex foundation, dedicated to interdisciplinary projects.

“This technology makes it possible to know the pathological heritage of the player.

We all have a pathological heritage when we play sports, we could identify the signatures that we have difficulty identifying today only by observation.

In order to detect anomalies, which is not a problem, to know if we can correct them, and in how long ”, he projects himself.

While waiting for new applications, the Aix-Marseille University teams are working with other high-level athletes.

“We have two projects on which we are strongly committed.

The French sailing team, because sailing will be in Marseille for the Paris Olympics.

And in disabled sports, it is very important to us, we have adapted our machine to accommodate our disabled athletes.

We are going to work with the French wheelchair team, that is 130 athletes, to make them even more efficient for Tokyo in 2021, and to prepare them for Paris 2024 to be on the first steps of the disabled nations ”, explains Denis Bertin.
