Donny van de Beek made his basic debut at Manchester United on Tuesday.

The midfielder who came over from Ajax and his new club booked a 0-3 victory over Luton Town in the third round of the League Cup.

Just before half time, Juan Mata scored 0-1 from a penalty kick.

Van de Beek was 'on ten' and was replaced in the 78th minute by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who had changed his team in a few places.

In the closing minutes, United secured victory thanks to goals from strikers Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, who had both come in.

23-year-old Van de Beek had already made his debut as a substitute on Saturday in the Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

He scored, but was unable to avoid a 1-3 loss.

The twelve-time Orange-international will have a new chance of playing minutes on Saturday, when United visits Brighton & Hove Albion in a competition.

West Ham United also reached the next League Cup round by beating Hull City 5-1.

Watford was surprised by Newport County (3-1) and West Bromwich Albion lost after penalties from Brentford.
