A Slovenian for the first time winner of the Tour: Tadej Pogacar became on Sunday September 20, on the eve of his 22nd birthday, the youngest winner for a century of the Great Loop which ended with the victory in the sprint of the Irish Sam Bennett, Sunday, on the Champs-Élysées.

The 21st and last stage left unchanged the upset standings the day before in the time trial of La Planche des Belles Filles: Pogacar beat his compatriot Primoz Roglic and the Australian Richie Porte, all three present for the first time on the final podium.

In the sprint, Sam Bennett, already assured of the green jersey, beat the world champion, the Danish Mads Pedersen, and the Slovakian Peter Sagan.

Winner of three stages, Pogacar wore the yellow jersey only on the last day, on the 122 kilometers leading from Mantes-la-Jolie, in Yvelines to Paris.

Winner in his first Tour de France

The rider of the UAE Emirates team, third in the 2019 Vuelta, won the Tour on his first participation.

He succeeds another young rider, the Colombian Egan Bernal, who won the Tour at 22 but this year abandoned the race he entered as the sole leader of the Ineos team.

The British formation, which had mastered seven of the last eight editions, could not compete with the Jumbo of Roglic and Belgian Wout van Aert, dominating in the various climbs.

Access for spectators to this 2020 Tour, postponed by two months due to the coronavirus pandemic, has been restricted in a number of places in the country which were classified "red" by the health authorities.
