Alou Diarra is assistant coach of RC Lens -

RCLens.fr

  • Since this summer, Alou Diarra discovered Ligue 1 as an assistant coach at RC Lens.

  • Number 2 in the Sang et Or, the former player tells about his new life and looks back on his good years in Bordeaux which he finds again on Saturday in Bollaert.

We can have played a World Cup final and discreetly start a career as an assistant in a club promoted to Ligue 1. This is the case of Alou Diarra.

Vice-world champion in 2006 with the Blues, the former midfielder is in the process of reconversion at RC Lens.

Arrived in Artois in 2018 as assistant coach of the U19, Diarra experienced an express promotion last February when he followed Franck Haise to the pros.

Since Lens moved up to Ligue 1 and the former player with a rich career (Bayern, Liverpool, Lens, OM, OL, Bordeaux…) discovered the elite from the sidelines.

When he meets the Girondins on Saturday (5 p.m.), a club that meant a lot to him, Alou Diarra told

20 Minutes about

his new life as a deputy.

The discovery of Ligue 1

“To come back to a very high level so quickly in this assistant coach position is a great experience.

The opportunity came faster than expected.

Today, I take full advantage of my new role and I am fully involved in the service of RC Lens.

I know Ligue 1 very well with my 18-year career as a high-level player.

It is a lot of requirement, questioning and work.

It is all this amount of detail that makes the difference with the youth teams.

We cannot leave anything to chance ”.

His role with the players

“I am a very open person, very accessible and we have permanent exchanges with the players.

If I have any anecdotes to give them from my experience, I do.

This relationship is going very well.

My role is also to relay with the post-training players that I know very well because I had them in U19 and in reserve last year.

I am also responsible for providing advice at the defensive level and on set pieces.

Everything must be done to ensure that the players are in the best possible condition to perform at the weekend.

It's a fascinating but fascinating job ”.

#RCLens #SDR While the RC Lens first team has just beaten Caen (2-0), the Lensoise reserve is preparing to welcome Reims (B) to continue its good series.

His friend Plasil deputy in Bordeaux

“It's a reunion that I approach with pleasure.

I am very happy to see Jaroslav again.

He's really a football friend, someone I really appreciate.

We had fantastic moments together with the Girondins (2007-2011).

We did our coaching training together at Clairefontaine last year.

He is a person who has a great tactical culture.

We often call each other on the phone to talk about upcoming deadlines.

It's funny to find each other on Saturday in the same assistant position.

We follow the same steps.

He spent two years in training and he has also just arrived in the professional world (as assistant to Gasset) ”.

The beautiful Gironde years

“The Girondins are a family for me.

I spent four years there with an amazing group of men.

We were all going in the same direction.

It's a club that has given me a lot and where I have lived for wonderful years.

It's going to be weird for me to face them for the first time as an assistant coach.

But we will try to find the loophole to beat them in order to continue our good start to the season ”.

🎙 @ _AlouDiarra for @ 20minutesbord: “JL Gasset adapts very easily and above all, he is able in a short time to unite around him.

This is its big quality.

He quickly relaxes the atmosphere thanks to his language, his lounging side… He soothes!

Lens, the club that revealed it

“It was the club that put me in the spotlight.

This is where I became international.

I played in the 2006 World Cup as a RC Lens player.

It is necessarily a club that has counted in my career and which still counts today by giving me the opportunity to be able to flourish in a professional staff.

It's extraordinary ".

Number 1 someday?

“For now, I am number 2 in a role that I love because I am learning all the tricks of this profession.

I am very attentive, very observant and advice-taker.

I am enriched every day with the members of the staff who have ten years of experience for some.

I've always been a very ambitious person, but I don't want to cut corners.

I want to enrich myself and progress before perhaps one day, to become a number 1 coach, but not necessarily at the professional level ”.

In Bordeaux, Plasil makes the link with the staff

Like Alou Diarra a few months before him, Jaroslav Plasil was promoted to the Girondins de Bordeaux.

After a year as an assistant to the reserve team, he joined the new staff set up by Jean-Louis Gasset: “He is discovering his job.

He gains more and more confidence.

The big advantage he has over a lot of educators is that he respects the players.

The players know who he is.

If a player is missing, he comes home, he puts on the chasuble and we don't see that he has stopped football, ”explains the Bordeaux coach.

With Ghislain Printant, the former Czech midfielder leads the sessions under the watchful eye of Gasset: “We were with Laurent Blanc at the start of his career in Bordeaux, and being at the start of his coaching career, that makes me extremely happy.

He is a very good person ”.

Jaroslav Plasil was also chosen because they knew the club's players very well and now makes the link with them and the new staff.
