Giannis Antetokounmpo was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the NBA for the second year in a row on Friday.

The star Milwaukee Bucks player received a total of 962 points from the jury, which consists of 100 sports journalists and an additional vote from the fans.

Antetokounmpo left LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers) 109 points behind in the election.

James Harden (Houston Rockets) finished third with 367 points.

Last year, Antetokounmpo became the second European to be voted the most valuable player in the North American basketball league after German Dirk Nowitzki.

The 25-year-old Greek also received the award for best defender of the season.

He is thus following in the footsteps of Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon, who were both named both MVP and best defender in one season.
