National Ekiden against prefectures Officially decided to cancel for both men and women September 18, 18:51 for the first time in history

It has been officially decided that the National Women's Ekiden and the National Men's Ekiden, which are scheduled to compete against each other in January next year, will be canceled for the first time in the history of the tournament due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

In the tournament, both men and women form teams from junior high school students to working adults and compete against each other in the ranking.

Next year, the National Women's Ekiden, which connects the 42.195km with 9 people, which is the same as the marathon, was scheduled for January 17th in Kyoto, and the National Men's Ekiden, which connects 48km with 7 people, was scheduled for January 24th in Hiroshima.

About the two tournaments Unlike other relay road races, the Japan Association of Athletics Federations usually gathers athletes and staff who are active in different affiliations to form a team, and since it involves movement from all over the country, infection control measures are taken. He indicated his intention to cancel on September 9 because it was difficult to manage.

Then, we held an extraordinary organizing committee to take a resolution in writing, and officially decided to cancel it on the 18th.

This is the first time that the tournament has been canceled for both girls who started in 1983 and boys who started in 1996.
