The riders in the SKODA Tour of Luxembourg went on strike on Wednesday due to the unsafe situation in the race.

In the second stage they stood next to their bike after 18 kilometers.

On Tuesday there was already a lot of dissatisfaction after the opening stage in the pro-continental race.

Italian Jacopo Guarnieri expressed his anger on Twitter afterwards.

"Here we go again: even after our request during the team meeting, there were a lot of cars parked between the last 5 and 2 kilometers", writes the Groupama-FDJ rider.

"It was a very dangerous part of the race."

"Everyone was preparing for the bunch sprint, the road was slightly downhill and the speed was 70 kilometers per hour, and suddenly a bus is parked at 4.5 kilometers from the finish!"

Stage in Luxembourg largely neutralized

Since the resumption of cycling after the corona outbreak, safety has been a hot topic in the peloton.

In a short time there were some serious accidents.

Fabio Jakobsen, for example, was driven into the gates in a mass sprint in the Tour of Poland, which was seen as very dangerous by many riders.

The Belgian Remco Evenepoel fell in a descent into a ravine in the Tour of Lombardy and the German Maximilian Schachmann collided in the same course with a car that had entered the course.

After the rider's strike in the Tour de Luxembourg, it was decided to neutralize the first 100 kilometers of the stage, because it was considered too dangerous.

The ride between Remich and Hesperange is 160 kilometers long.

The last 60 kilometers consists of three local circuits, which are considered safe enough by the riders.
