According to regulations that apply to a temporary entry ban to Sweden, the government has decided to temporarily ban unnecessary travel to Sweden from countries other than EU countries, the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

There are exceptions in the regulation, but at present elite athletes are not covered.

RF requires change

This means that several international sporting events at the elite level, such as the World Cup, the World Cup and the European Championships, are threatened.

The Swedish Sports Confederation is now demanding a change.

On Monday, comments were sent to the government.

- It is about professional sports and must be as important as other activities.

These persons should be judged to perform necessary functions for Sweden in the same way as the exemption applies to other activities.

Sport has been able to show the great responsibility we are prepared to take and the rigorous and far-reaching protocols that have been established for elite sports to reduce the spread of infection, says Björn Eriksson in a statement.

U21 internationals threatened

Among the relevant sporting events in the near future are the Swedish Open in table tennis 3-6 October, the Swedish football masters' international match against Russia at Friends and the World Cup in biathlon in Östersund in December.

According to Håkan Sjöstrand, general secretary of the Swedish Football Association, the A national team's international match against Russia in October can be played on neutral ground.

The government's decision to ban entry means that several Swedish sports events are threatened, including the men's and U21 national teams' international matches against Russia and Armenia.

- As it looks right now, we can not play these matches in Sweden, but will be allowed to play on neutral ground.

The countries that are possible are Poland, Cyprus, Hungary and Greece, but that can also change, says Sjöstrand.
