AFC considers the UAE unit withdrawing from the Asian champions due to "force majeure"

The AFC considered the UAE club Al Wahda withdrawn from the AFC Champions League for not traveling to Doha, due to the force majeure to resume the group stage with the grouping system.

The sub-committee for the new Corona virus in the AFC Champions League for the Western Region decided today, Monday, that the circumstances surrounding the club’s failure to arrive meet the description of “compulsive circumstances,” and that the matches that Al-Wahda Club fought in the tournament “will be considered null.”

And it was decided that no points or goals from the previous matches the team played would be counted when determining the final group ranking.

The federation added, "Al-Wahda club had to arrive in Doha four days before playing the first match, but on September 9, the club informed the AFC of its inability to travel after discovering positive cases of the Coronavirus."

And Al-Wahda club was placed under stone in the Emirates, where the UAE Federation submitted a request to postpone the matches, but as a result of the completion of preparations and the arrival of other teams, this was not possible.

Al-Wehda played two matches before the competition stopped last February, drawing 1-1 with Saudi Al-Ahly and beating the Iraqi police 1-0.

The unit hoped to state "fairness from the relevant committees (in the AFC) and take into account the reasons beyond control that prevented, during the last moments, from preparing to travel to compete in the championship."

The AFC Champions League matches will be held in the West region in Doha, and will be held according to special standards to prevent Corona.
