An exciting starting field with World Cup winner Sam Kendricks, Olympic gold medalist Thiago Braz and Piotr Lisek became, as usual, only one man strong after 5.91.

Then only Armand Duplantis was left, this with an above demolition already at 5.82.

For Duplantis, the goal was clear: to beat Sergei Bubka's outdoor record from 1994 at 6.14.

After 5.91, the bar was requested to go straight to record highs.

The two initial attempts were interrupted during the approach.

Unfavorable wind cited pole vault expert Alhaji Jeng as a contributing cause.

The last attempt was the best but the 20-year-old was still never close.

Now there are two competitions left in Rome and in Doha where Duplantis has the chance to break the outdoor record this season.
