An Australian player dies in his first rugby league match

The Rugby League in New South Wales, Australia, announced on Friday that 19-year-old Joel Darke has died after suffering a head injury during his first appearance in the adult competition.


The League stated that Dark had been lying in critical condition at John Hunter Hospital since he fell injured during his team's Central Newcastle Butcher Boys match against Western Superbis on September 6 in the Newcastle Rugby League competitions.


All matches scheduled for the week in the Newcastle League have been postponed.
