Postponement of the start of the Spanish League 24 hours

The launch of the Spanish Football League for the 2020/2021 season was postponed for 24 hours due to a dispute between the league and the Spanish federation.

The League confirmed yesterday evening that the match between Granada and Athletic Bilbao will be held on Saturday instead of Friday because the Football Association insisted that matches should not be held on Fridays.

The Spanish Federation has long opposed holding matches on Fridays or Mondays due to the potential impact on crowd attendance.

This was not a cause for concern during the post-closure period to end last season, as matches were held without the audience present, so matches were allowed on Fridays and Mondays.

But the Spanish Federation believes that this should not be enforced again even though the fans have not yet been allowed to return to the stadiums again.

The League issued a statement confirming that the Granada-Bilbao match will take place on Saturday, 24 hours later.

And it announced its intention to make an attempt with the Spanish Federation to allow matches to take place on Fridays with the start of the second round.
