He got the feeling quite early in the race but struggled and absolutely did not want to break but was eventually forced to give up.

He stepped down much earlier than the TV viewers got the idea.

- I broke with two and a half laps left (1000 meters) and it is not on the map that I should break a race.

I got a feeling from a party under the calf, the long muscle under the heel tendon, from absolutely nowhere with eight laps left (3200 meters) and it got worse and worse with each lap, says Hassan who tried with different tricks to get over the course. on the problem, slow down, put in the foot differently and try to relieve but nothing helped, says Hassan who had to get off after 4000 meters.

Hoped it would drop

- I thought it could drop, says Hassan who was well aware of Gnaderud's record time of 13.17.59, which spurred him on, a record he really wanted after 13.18.01 at home in Gothenburg last weekend.

- I was at Swedish record speed and continued as long as possible.

I really wanted to continue but my body said no.

It was not possible to continue, says Hassan who pulled on runners who later ran to the finish in just 13.17.

- I tried to get one of the guys to change gears but he did not want to get up so I had to pull for him.

These are guys I've beaten before.

Want to run for 13 minutes

Hassan does not want to speculate on what he could have achieved for time yesterday, but that does not matter much.

He has a much bigger goal than going for a time of 13.17.

- Many people talk about Gnaderud's record but that's not what I'm aiming for but I want to go for 13 minutes.

I want to not only belong to the European elite but the world elite and run with the big boys, says Hassan who during the season was in Monaco where Joshua Cheptegei set a world record with 12.35,36.

Yesterday Jacob Kiplimo won in an excellent 12.48.63.

- I run with guys who have run faster than Mo Farah who is my idol, Hassan thinks who is stiff and manages to get to the hotel in Ostrava before returning home to Gothenburg.

- I walk like a centenarian and limp forward with the help of my left leg, so it's not great.

The season is over

How long do you think you will be gone?

- No idea, but it does not feel like it is serious.

It can be five days or several weeks.

It is still too early to say.

I have to do an MRI (magnetic camera examination) first to be told, he says.

With yesterday's injury, the track season is over for Ullevilöparen.

- I would have run 1,500 meters in Croatia on September 15, but we have canceled that and the season is over.

Now I aim for the championships 2021 with the Olympics as the biggest goal.

I will certainly compete a lot during the winter, otherwise it is mostly training that counts, Hassan concludes.
