Japan Determined To Organize An "Olympiad At Any Cost"

The Minister of the Olympics (Tokyo 2020) in Japan, Seko Hashimoto, stressed the necessity of holding the postponed Olympic Games despite the emerging Corona virus crisis.

"I think we have to hold the Olympiad at any cost," Hashimoto told a press conference yesterday.

She added: "All participants in the games are working together to prepare for the event, while athletes are intensifying their efforts in preparation for the next year, despite the difficult conditions imposed by the Corona crisis."

And she continued: "I would like to focus all our efforts to confront the Corona virus, so that the International Olympic Committee can announce as soon as possible the holding of the Olympiad."

The views of Japanese officials differed on postponing the Olympic competitions to be held next year

In late July, the head of the Tokyo Olympics Organizing Committee, Yoshiro Mori, told NHK that the competitions may be held next year if the coronavirus situation improves significantly.

"We cannot do that if the current situation continues," Mori added.
