The Russian league season started a few weeks ago.

But the Swedish defender Sabina Jacobsen has not been present during the introduction with CSKA Moscow.

She was also not included in the national team captain Tomas Axnér's first national team squad for the training matches against Poland in early October.

Injured in the gym

The reason is that the 31-year-old is injured.

The problems arose quite quickly after she returned to Russia during the summer before the new season.

- I made a movement very quickly at the gym and felt that it was not so good.

I have learned over the years that you have to take a step back and not push.

I have a worn knee since before and am also starting to get older.

I have hardly any meniscus left and the cartilage is worn.

That's why I could feel signs early, she says.

Jacobsen actually wanted to go home to Sweden directly to start her rehab, but due to the corona pandemic, she got stuck in Russia for a couple of weeks.

- I did not have the work visa ready, so the club had my passport for three and a half weeks.

Therefore, I had to run my rehab in Russia.

First we were at training camp and then I sat up in the mountains and could not do much.

When we got back to Moscow, I could drive to a clinic.

But it did not get better at the pace I wanted.

We are very good at this type of injury in Sweden, so now I have been home in Sweden for a week and it is already starting to feel better.

Hopeful

Over the years, she has suffered from several knee injuries.

A year ago, Jacobsen missed the World Cup for that very reason.

But this time she is hopeful of being able to come back and play the European Championships in Norway and Denmark in December.

- I do not know how long it will take but it will be maybe two, three, four weeks in Sweden a little depending on how it goes.

I have received positive messages from my doctor, who has operated on me the last two times, that I will play handball this season.

Right now I'm just aiming to come back and play handball again, says Jacobsen.
