He did not miss much Cornet for his New York career to extend beyond, just an ability to raise his level a little more often on important points.

What his opponent was able to do by dominating during the exchanges.

But the point of the day was won by @alizecornet 🔥🇫🇷🔽 #USOpen #HomeOfTennis https://t.co/TEjsDiTpPi

Pironkova, unclassified because she is attempting a return to the highest level after more than three years without tennis, thus broke at the best time to lead 5-4 and then complete the first set on her serve.

She thought she would do the same again, in the second set, but Cornet held on admirably to save a match point, break up and equalize after the tie-break.

The third race saw her start better by taking the service of the Bulgarian but she immediately broke and then escaped definitively.

In the next round, she will cross paths with another mom in this US Open: Serena Williams.
