Manchester City announces that Mahrez and Laporte have contracted Covid-19

The English Premier League club, Manchester City, announced today, Monday, that the results of the COVID-19 test for Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez and defender Emeric Laporte have tested positive.

City said in a statement that the players were not feeling symptoms and had isolated themselves while following the protocols of the Premier League and the British government.

"Everyone in City wish Riyadh and Emric a quick recovery before returning to training and starting the new season," the club added.

The 2020-2021 league season begins on September 21.

Pep Guardiola's side, who failed to defend their title last season after ending the season 18 points behind champions Liverpool, will kick off the new season by visiting Wolverhampton Wanderers on 21 this month.
