The new logo of the International Paralympic Committee and the revision of the emblem of the Beijing Paralympic Games

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, September 6 (Reporter Ji Ye, Wang Yong, Wang Meng) After the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) updated its logo in October last year, the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games emblem, Winter Olympics and Winter Games The double emblem combination graphics of the Paralympic Games were updated in comparison and officially announced to the public on the 12th anniversary of the opening of the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008 (September 6).

After communication and confirmation with IPC, the update includes: the three arc elements of the International Paralympic Committee logo at the lower part of the emblem have been redrawn and colored to be consistent with the new IPC logo; the "PARALYMPIC GAMES" in the old emblem has been removed "The English words for the Paralympic Games; inject new vitality into the emblem.

The Cultural Activities Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee communicated with IPC on the renewal of the Beijing Paralympic Winter Games emblem many times, and solicited opinions from interested parties such as licensed product manufacturers, uniform designers, news media, venue owners, etc. In conjunction with the News and Publicity Department, Market Development Department, Legal Affairs Department, and Paralympic Games Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, the IPC logo update and its use specifications were carefully studied.

Lin Cunzhen, Artistic Director of Image Landscape of the Cultural Activities Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, said: "The updated IPC logo has more vivid colors, and the shape of the graphics was originally static, but now it is more dynamic. The new logo is younger and more energetic."

"Based on the IPC logo changes, in addition to the IPC logo update, the biggest change is the removal of the English words'PARALYMPIC GAMES'. This is a huge change for the Paralympics. !" Lin Cunzhen said.

"The addition of this small line of English is actually to let everyone know more about the brand of the Paralympic Games and know that this is the Paralympic Games. Without explanatory language, IPC is worried that the Chinese still don't understand that this is the symbol of the Paralympic Games. ."

To this end, the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee has conducted a thorough investigation. Questions include: do you recognize the emblem, have you found any differences in the emblem, do you still know it after removing this line, and whether you like this change?

Finally, it was found that more than 90% of the interviewed people said that even after removing this line, they still knew that this was a symbol of the Paralympic Games.

“It has been nearly 20 years since China’s successful bid to host the Summer Olympics. The Chinese people have a very deep understanding of the Olympics, Paralympics, Winter Olympics, and Winter Paralympics.” Lin Cunzhen said, this also feeds IPC. A reassurance pill.

"After removing that line, the whole form is very concise. It turned out that in clothing and licensed products, because of this line of small print, some application scenarios can only be abandoned because it is difficult to make small prints. Now, image expression, subsequent extension, application production In terms of convenience."

In previous Paralympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games emblems, the English words "PARALYMPIC GAMES" are usually added.

In the Olympic and Winter Olympics emblems, there is no corresponding English wording.

The emblems of the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics were released on December 15, 2017, respectively called "Winter Dreams" and "Leaps".

As an emblem designer, Lin Cunzhen said frankly that when she first designed it, she always felt that the two emblems were not balanced because of the word "PARALYMPIC GAMES".

"This also made me very distressed when designing. I especially hope that the two emblems can be parallel. Now through unremitting efforts, it has finally been achieved."

According to Lin Cunzhen, the new IPC logo has a four-year conversion period, and the Beijing Paralympic Winter Games emblem will also be converted from this year to the end of 2021.

"The two-year transition period will allow everyone to re-produce materials. One principle is that large-scale, three-dimensional, and difficult-to-produce materials should be kept as they are. Our biggest appeal is not to have two disabled persons in the Winter Olympics. The Olympic Games logo, or the conflict between the old and the new logo."

For the first time in the history of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the same logo was used as the emblem.

The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, released in September this year, used a dynamic and individual emblem.

Like the Beijing Winter Paralympics, the emblems of the Paralympic Games in Paris and Los Angeles do not have the English words "PARALYMPIC GAMES".
