The course in the Czech capital Prague was laid to be able to give a victory time under the previous world record of 1.06.11 - a time that the Ethiopian Netsanet Gudeta noted at the half-marathon World Cup 2018.

So it was.

The fastest of all in the strong starting field was the 26-year-old Kenyan Perers Jepchirchir, who thus finished in the time 1.05.34.

"Happy and proud"

But the new world record was not as good as she herself had aimed for.

- I had imagined a time under 1.05, she said on Czech TV after the race, according to the site sport.cz, but was still happy:

- I am very happy and proud.

It was hard to run alone for so long.

The world record is thus in races where only women participate.

The women's record in the half marathon where both men and women run is 1.04.31 and was set by Ethiopia's Ababel Yeshaneh in February.
