Vurnon Anita signed a contract with RKC Waalwijk until the end of the season on Monday.

The former Ajax player had already been on trial with the Eredivisionist in recent weeks.

"It has been in the air for a while, but we are happy that we can definitively add Vurnon to our selection. His qualities are beyond question. With his experience and insight in the game, he will be of added value", says general manager Frank van Mosselveld. the site of RKC.

The 31-year-old Anita played for Ajax between 2005 and 2012, with which he became champion twice.

In the years that followed, the three-time Oranje-international played for Newcastle United, Leed United, Willem II and CSKA Sofia, where he had his contract terminated earlier this year.

Earlier on Monday, RKC already took over midfielder Ayman Azhil from Bayer Leverkusen on a rental basis.

The number of reinforcements this summer stands at six: goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou, defenders Ahmed Touba and Thierry Lutonda and attacker James Efmorfidis were previously signed.

After Anita, another former Ajax player and also an ex-international of Orange may be registered.

Right back Gregory van der Wiel (32) has been training in Waalwijk for a while and also hopes for a contract.
