From our special correspondent in Nice,

We will not thank Roxana Maracineanu and Jean-Michel Blanquer. Because of them, we missed the finish of “La Course by le Tour de France”, the women's version of the Tour de France. It takes place in one stage, this year around Nice. Three-time world champion Marianne Vos, winner last year in Pau, was beaten in a sprint by Briton Elizabeth Deignan, who wore the rainbow jersey in 2015. The final was impressive, with a breakaway from six leaders. However, observers feared a massive (and boring) sprint.

🤩 What a sprint! Relive the last km of #LaCourse and this thrilling sprint which saw @lizziedeignan claim a super strong win!

"I'm just relieved to win", sighed "Lizzie" Deignan, modest: "My teammates did a fantastic job, starting with Elisa (Longo-Borghini, present in the leading group)" The latter attacked twice in the final while Elizabeth Deignan is recovering.

"Special victory"

“It's a special victory because I'm close to home. I can't wait to talk to my husband and daughter on the phone, ”concludes Lizzie Deignan. She had already won the Grand Prix de Plouay this week. The French premiere, Aude Biannic, came sixteenth.
