The message has also received support from many of the players who have already left the playoffs.

"Changes ... Quotes and conversations are fantastic, but actions that come from these quotes and conversations are what make the difference," tweets New Jersey's PK Subban.

The basketball's NBA canceled all games on Wednesday and soon others followed. The women's league WNBA, the baseball MLB, the football MLS, the tennis WTA and ATP and even the summer vacation NFL league in American football followed and stopped games and training.

"As a black man in ice hockey, the lack of action and recognition from the NHL is actually extremely insulting," San Jose's Evander Kane wrote on Twitter at the time.

A day later, he pointed out that it was not the NHL that made the decision, but the players.

"The players took a stand today. I am proud of my teammates in the NHL for their actions ", he writes.

One who, on the other hand, thinks they should have played on is New York Islanders coach Barry Trotz. He believes that the issue gets more attention in that way.

- When you talk to me and the players about this, they get a platform. You want to keep this issue alive, he says.
