At the beginning of June, SVT Sport published a review which shows that the Swedish Figure Skating Federation has been aware on at least 15 occasions in the last twelve years that there have been irregularities in the sport.

A few days later, an external investigation was set up, appointed by the union, which confirmed that there are serious and extensive malpractices with a widespread culture of secrecy. The investigation also showed that coaches exposed skiers to emotional abuse and weight loss.

At the union's annual meeting on September 26, a new board will be elected for the next two years. Prior to the annual meeting, which takes place every two years, all districts and associations have the opportunity to nominate people for a position on the board.

"Not happened in several years"

After 2014, no new person has been nominated, according to reports from previous annual meetings. In the last eight years, only four people have been nominated to the board.

But this year the situation looks different. More than ten new candidates have been nominated for the annual meeting in just over a month.

Cecilia Falkenbäck, chair of the nomination committee, believes that the many nominations may be due to the turbulence that has been in the union recently.

- You probably want to see something a little different. It has been turbulent for a while in the Swedish Figure Skating Association and what we hope for now is that we will have peace and quiet and time to devote to the sport, says Cecilia Falkenbäck to SVT Sport.

Falkenbäck has been chairman of the nomination committee since 2014 and before that was a member for four years. She confirms that the Nomination Committee has received an unusual number of nominations this year.

Nominations from three districts

- We have received over ten nominations this time and it has not happened in several years, she says.

- There were no nominations at the last opportunity and not before that either.

According to information to SVT Sport, the nominations come from the Stockholm Figure Skating Association, Bohuslän-Dals Figure Skating Association and Gothenburg districts and clubs.

The Nomination Committee's work to present a proposal to the Board is in full swing. On 12 September, the proposal will be ready and presented to districts and clubs, which will then be able to vote at the annual meeting on 26 September.
