The clubs in the speedway's elite series are some of those who have worked hardest to bring about a relief in the audience issue. Among other things, the reigning Swedish champions Smederna withdrew from the elite series due to the fact that they could take in spectators at their home matches.

"Finances the home matches"

ESS vice chairman Mikael Holmstrand tells SVT that the new relief of being able to let in 500 spectators means a lot to the sport.

- It is a fall forward in the direction we have been fighting for so long, and it is high time I personally think, he says.

- If we get in 500 payers, the home matches will finance themselves. That's how important it is to us. The away matches are still sponsored, but this means half and there is still a big difference, he continues.

What he thinks about a bit is when it can become possible.

- It's the date you wonder about a bit. How fast do you think we can get in 500 spectators? The clubs have a protocol to receive more spectators and it is quite an easy adjustment for them. We are ready to do this for the next round on Tuesday, and all arenas have a capacity for at least 500 seats and more, Mikael Holmstrand.

Hoping for even more

He still hopes for further relief in the future.

- That is the hope. If this relief works well and there are no accidents along the way, we hope that you can increase this further during the season, says Mikael Holmstrand.

Holmstrand refers to the Polish league that has admitted thousands of spectators recently.

- This is the line we have argued for, because we have large areas and large capacities. Poland started with 25 percent of the arena capacity and that is what we have also hoped for. We do not think that a ceiling in fixed numbers is reasonable because the arenas look different, says Mikael Holmstrand.
