Just two weeks after announcing their renewal, the Pacers fired Nate McMillan after being eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the Miami Heat 4-0. "I would like to thank Nate for his years with the team," his president of operations Kevin Pritchard said in a statement. "This was a very difficult decision for us to make, but we feel that it is in the best interest of the organization that we move in a different direction," he added.

The Pacers lost for the fourth time to the Heat and were eliminated by fast track in the first round of the playoffs at Disney World (Orlando). With this elimination, the Pacers add five consecutive years losing in the first round, four of them under the command of McMillan.

The franchise had just extended (Aug. 12) McMillan's contract for one more season, with an additional season still remaining on his contract.

McMillan, who was a player for the Seattle Supersonics for more than two decades, took over the Indiana bench in the 2016-17 season and ends up with a record of 183 wins, the third-highest for a team manager, and 136 losses. In their four playoff appearances, however, McMillan's Pacers have won 3 games and lost 16.

The Sixers, another team eliminated 4-0 in the first round, also fired their coach, Brett Brown.
