Wheelchair basketball IPC request for recovery of qualifications Player group August 25 23:50

A re-examination of wheelchair basketball classification has determined that nine athletes do not meet the conditions for participating in the Paralympic Games, and an organization aiming to improve the status of athletes is qualified for athletes on the 24th. Has submitted a document to the IPC=International Paralympic Committee.

The documents were submitted by the “Global Athletes”, an organization established by Olympic gold medalists, etc. that aims to improve the status of athletes.

When it comes to wheelchair basketball, the IPC asked the International Federation of Wheelchair Basketball to re-examine because of problems with classifying players. As a result of the federation's re-examination, it was determined that nine out of the 132 eligible players were not obstacles that meet the requirements for the Paralympic Games, making it difficult to participate in the Tokyo Games. The conclusion of a player has been put on hold.

In response to this, Global Athletes said that they are infringing the basic rights of the athletes regarding the situation where the athletes who have won the participation rights in the Tokyo tournament are excluded. Submitted a document asking for recovery. Then I asked the IPC to reply by the 7th of next month.

Regarding reclassification of classification, the Japan Wheelchair Basketball Federation has not disclosed the situation of Japanese players.
