Stade Rennais had so far been spared the coronavirus epidemic. But the situation has seriously deteriorated in recent days. At the end of last week, a player from the Breton club had already tested positive. After the detection of this case, new tests were carried out on Monday. They revealed "new suspicions of cases of Covid-19 within the professional workforce of Stade Rennais", the club said Monday evening in a press release.

As required by the health protocol, "the suspected players were immediately isolated and placed in fourteen", underlined the club, specifying that "the LFP and its Covid commission have been warned of these new cases".

Saturday's meeting against Montpellier threatened

“As a precaution and in application of the sanitary protocol, the technical staff will adapt their training sessions by favoring work in small groups until further notice. Given this context, the training sessions initially open to the press will take place behind closed doors, ”the press release concludes.

After a draw against Lille on Saturday evening on the first day of Ligue 1, Stade Rennais should normally host Montpellier on Saturday afternoon at Roazhon Park. But if new positive cases are confirmed within the club, the meeting could be threatened.
