• MotoGP.Maverick Viñales pulls the bike on the straight at 210 km / h because the brakes were not working

Marc Márquez's loss has left a void in the MotoGP World Championship that no one has been able to fill so far. No pilot can command a hammer blow like Cervera's, but neither do the applicants take a step forward. Neither Quartararo, nor Dovizioso, nor Viñales, nor any of those who enter the most open pool in recent years. Without its great dominator, the World Cup has been left without an owner.

With five races contested, Fabio Quartararo is the leader with only 70 points. If the season ended like this, it would be the worst average for a champion since the current scoring system was introduced in 1993. So far the 'record' is held by Nicky Hayden , who won in 2006 with 252 points (14.8 per race). Between the first and the seventh classified there is only a gap of 25 points, the spoils of a victory.

But even more so, in just five races, 11 different riders have already been on the podium, more than at any other start to the season. No driver has managed to get into the box in more than two races and, of the top 10 classified, only three have managed to finish them all. Between falls, accidents, errors and mechanical failures, the World Cup is a hubbub from which no one can get a cut.

Starting with Quartararo himself . After last year's grand finale, the first in the premier class, and the two victories with which he opened the season at Jerez, eyes turned to the Frenchman, but the 'Diablo' has punctured in the last three races. In the Czech Republic he disappointed on Sunday after dominating the weekend, and in both Austrian rounds he has made mistakes that have taken him for a walk on the gravel. Had it not been for the red flags, the 'breakdown' could have been greater.

On the way to the pits, the Frenchman seemed to ask Valentino Rossi if his Yamaha brakes were also failing. It was the technical problem that harmed him in this Grand Prix and the one that forced Maverick Viñales to jump off the bike at almost 230 km / hour to avoid crashing at Turn 1. The one in Figueras is another one that could slip through that gap which Márquez left open, but after the two second places in Jerez, he has not gone beyond the tenth place.

Jack Miller's Annoyances

Nor does Andrea Dovizioso , runner-up in the last three World Cups ... And also second this season. The Italian does not finish starting, after the victory in Austria - just in the week in which he confirmed his departure from Ducati- he finished fifth in a Styrian Grand Prix where the tires did not stop giving him problems. Even so, he holds just three points behind Quartararo before returning home for the next two races at Misano.

Jack Miller pokes his head out, although he still has discomfort in his right arm. Álex Rins , fourth in 2019, has not yet managed to get on the podium. Joan Mir alternates two retirements with three finishes in the top five. Morbidelli, a second place with two other retirements. The forecasts are not worth this course.

Miguel Oliveira , the surprise winner this Sunday, said that "once Márquez was left out, everyone felt that he could win races or championships. At least it is the feeling that floats in the environment." Such has been the domain of Catalan. The Portuguese, who won taking advantage of an error by Jack Miller and Pol Espargaró in the last corner, serves as an example for this unpredictable year: of the four drivers who have won one of the five races, only Dovizioso knew what it was like to win this season . Both Oliveira and Quartararo and Brad Binder have released their track records in 2020. A season that, without Marc Márquez, has been left without an owner.
